An oasis is a sub-biome of the vanilla Desert biome with small pools of water surrounded by bright green Sandy Grass blocks and Palm Trees. It rarely spawns inside small deserts though.
Before 1.8, Spring Water pools also spawned, but were much rarer than the normal water pools
Surviving in the desert is easier with the availability of wood and the possibility of farming, but the sandy landscape may need some terraforming for large scale farming.
